With both our TTRide South Africa courses currently on the East cost South Africa, they have been lucky enough not only to witness monstrous surf but also to watch their hosts riding them in such away that they have made global surfing headlines.
With both trips in their final stages all our Riders are now able to full appreciate the technicality commitment bravery and skill required to surf at the highest level. Watching the pro's on video is no match for the inspiration envoked watching pro surfers fearlessly taking on huge waves right in front of them.
To go one step further, our Riders will by now be referring to these guys as their hosts and friends as they are lucky enough to be living with them during their stay in Durban.
Here's is a review from www.thebombsurf.com
1. Rudy Palmboom SNR.
Rudy SNR was the absolute standout of the swell that just hit Durban’s Golden Mile. Dan Redman had one MENTAL tube, Twiggy was more stylish. Jason probably spent more time in the shade, but Rudy SNR was seriously in the groove. As the definitive Ansteys/Rock local Rudy only comes to ‘town’ when he really has to, but these last 4 days he made it count! In the build up to the swell Rudy was charging. As the swell peaked on Sat borderline maxing the lineup Rudy dodged peaks, found the slot and pulled in – deep. By anyone’s standards his surfing was amazing. For a guy who is over 50 his performance was incredible. The message he sent the laaities was clear. “You are not a man until you can surf like this.” He out surfed his son which is no small feat considering that Rudy JNR was charging hard too. Rudy SNR’s wave choice was phenomenal. His commitment unquestionable. His technique flawless. His performance, seriously inspiring.
2. Rudy Palmboom JNR.
Rudy JNR tried hard to keep up with his dad. His approach was good and when he got waves he rode them full on, but there was 30 years of pulling into barrels between them. Rudy JNR was in the top 5 of this swell. He claims the no 2 slot on the BMT rankings this week for his blowing up performance in his video section where he took out Ricky Basnett and Nicky Godfrey as well as his critical performance in the swell of the last few days. Flip if he keeps going like his dad can you imagine how good he’ll be in 30 years time?
