Fitting in with the local community is at the heart of the Ticket to Ride concept, so in Costa Rica we embrace two ways of life that are integral to the local culture.

Beach Yoga

Combining beach yoga alongside surfing is one of the most effective ways to speed progression as so much of surfing relies on flexibility and developing good core strength. Practicing yoga underneath the palm trees, set just back from the white sand beach, is one of the most popular aspects of our Costa Rica courses. The twice weekly classes are completely optional and no previous yoga experience is necessary.

Learn Spanish

Spanish is the local language, and it’s difficult to say you’ve truly been to Costa Rica without engaging with the locals. So, as well as learning to surf each Rider is given the opportunity to learn basic Spanish throughout the camp.

Santa Teresa
Having travelled the length and breadth of Costa Rica looking for the perfect set up for the Ticket to Ride concept to be fully experienced we were spoilt for choice. However, after weighing up a whole range of factors in different locations, we decided to settle ourselves on the end of the Nicoya Peninsula next to the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve in the beachside community of Santa Teresa.

Santa Teresa attracts more than just surfers to share its way of life. Over the last few years tourism has become its main focus, however this is by no means on a mass scale and the feeling is that it never will be. For nature lovers there is a great variety of exotic wildlife and tropical plants. Butterflies and orchids, iguanas, turtles and toucans are everywhere. Eco tourism is a code that locals and settlers uphold giving Santa Teresa its undiscovered tropical charm.

Throughout your time in Costa Rica you can expect to get involved in one of the below

Sport Fishing

Costa Rica has some of the best Sport Fishing in the world. The Pacific side has incredible fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snapper, Baracuda and more. Riders have the opportunity to spend the day out on the ocean and enjoy one of the most unforgettable fishing experiences imaginable. Everything caught during day will then be cooked on an open fire that evening.

Snorkeling

Costa Rica’s tropical reputation is not confined to the land, outer reefs provide sanctuaries for incredible sea life. Riders will spend the day cruising around the on a boat hopping in with a pair of flippers, a snorkel and mask to see what they can see.

Canopy Tour

Living in the jungle for 2 weeks is one thing, understanding its vastness is another. To get an idea of the amazing biodiversity that we are lucky enough to be living alongside in Santa Teresa there is the opportunity to spend a day swinging through the trees on harnesses experiencing yet another world in which plants and wildlife are thriving.

What People Say...

Erin Coutts 22 - Costa Rica Surf Camp - 2009

The Costa Rica trip was amazing, there probably isn’t a more perfect place to learn to surf. It was great to have two instructors to help me on different aspects of my surfing and I felt they helped improve my surfing a lot. The Funky Monkey was a great place to stay and the staff were lovely. Learning Spanish was really worthwhile and our teacher Pia was really good. It was great to go snorkelling and I enjoyed the weather and gorgeous beaches of Costa Rica.
