Durban Surf Camp

Durban, South Africa - 13th Aug, 2012 to 23rd Aug, 2012

10 Day Surf Camp Course - £ 845.00

Welcome to Durban, South Africa’s “surf city”. Whilst in Durban riders will have to chance to visit the Bluff, a well to do area just to the South of Durban’s main beaches as well as Ballito which lies north of Durban and is an affluent ocean side community and frequent holiday destination for Durban’s rich and famous.

In the Bluff we stay at Anstey’s Backpackers, an idyllic location perched just above the main beach where you will have a view all the way down Anstey’s beach to the infamous barrels of Cave Rock. This is one of the most renowned surfing set-ups in South Africa and we will be right on top of it!

Having stayed in the Bluff, riders will locate up to Ballito and stay at The Secret Spot Surf Camp. Overlooking Shaka’s Rock beach and set in amongst a dense forest of local indigenous trees the hostel is the ultimate retreat and the perfect place to finish the trip.

Anstey’s Backpackers, The Bluff, Durban
Anstey’s Backpackers is owned by South African surf Legend Rudi Palmboom. Rudi was one of the original chargers at Cave Rock and has made a reputation for himself as a fearless surfer who will take on anything the ocean can throw at him; he still receives a regular invite to the Big Wave Africa event held each year at Dungeon’s. Rudi is one of the most laid-back characters that we will meet on our trip and his passion for the beach and for the surf will be an inspiration as we begin the courses. The backpackers has an awesome location only a 2 minute walk to the beach and provides for a home away from home.

Secret Spot Surf Camp, Ballito
Run by former Durban Pro-Lifeguard Mike Smith and his wife Roz, the Secret Spot is a gem and is perfectly set-up to cater for your every need. The poolside restaurant serves excellent food with a wood fired oven for the infamous pizza nights and TTRide farewell parties. The bar is well stocked to provide you with a cool drink that you can take to one of the many wicker recliners to sit back, relax and take in the view or grab a couple of beers before you head into town.
Durbans Flow Rider
We rent out the flow rider in Durban, a man made wave that jets out water into a curved wall producing a standing wave. Either take to a bodyboard or fancy your chances and try standing up. It’s always an epic couple of hours with lots of funny wipeouts and laughs all round.

Farewell Party
At the end of your surf camp there will be a farewell party at The Secret Spot Surf Camp with free beer and food all night providing for the perfect send off before going home!

What People Say...

Sebastian Inglis-Jones 19 - South Africa 2010

Its simple, if you want to totally transform your surfing, ttride can do it. I started as someone who had done a fair bit of surfing back in England, but had never really experienced surfing as a lifestyle or ridden any waves worth mentioning. I got the chance to ride some of the best waves in the world, in some of the most beautiful spots in the world. I received some of the best tuition available and had the biggest laugh while doing it. The trip was awesome. Now I can’t think of anything I would rather do than surf.
